One of the biggest opportunities I see across franchise systems is better consumer segmentation.
Too many brands still organize marketing around broad demographics. Families. Millennials. Young professionals. That doesn’t tell us why people buy.
Consider two families with similar incomes. One prioritizes convenience. The other prioritizes value. They may purchase the same product, but for completely different reasons. Marketing to them identically wastes money.
At SHG, we focus on understanding purchase motivations, buying frequency, competitive alternatives and transaction triggers.
But there’s another important consideration. Brands need to create excitement.
Consumers have more choices than ever, and brands that rely on the same promotions and marketing messages eventually become invisible.
Successful franchise marketing needs to introduce new reasons to visit, create meaningful consumer engagement and build emotional connections with customers. That might involve product innovation, local experiences, community partnerships or campaigns built around specific consumer occasions.
My perspective: The future of franchise marketing combines consumer intelligence with creativity. Understand what motivates customers, give them something worth talking about and measure the impact on transactions and profitability.
Marketing activity isn’t the objective. Profitable sales growth is.
