AI adoption is accelerating quickly. But there is a growing difference between using AI and actually building it into the business.
In Canada, the percentage of businesses using AI to produce goods or deliver services has roughly tripled in two years, rising from 6.1% in 2024 to 12.2% in 2025 and 19.2% in 2026, according to Statistics Canada. For franchise systems, that distinction matters.
Having employees use ChatGPT, generating marketing content, or experimenting with an AI tool is relatively easy. Building AI into a system with 50, 100, or 500 locations is something entirely different.
The real opportunity is using AI to improve how the entire system performs.
That could mean:

  • Identifying declining unit performance before it becomes a serious problem.
  • Comparing locations against system benchmarks.
  • Understanding franchisee sentiment.
  • Monitoring consumer reviews and competitive activity.
  • Improving labour and sales forecasting.
  • Giving leadership a clearer view of what is happening across the business in real time.
AI is only as effective as the business underneath it
If operating processes aren’t consistent, data sits in different systems, KPIs aren’t clearly defined, or leadership doesn’t have visibility across the organization, adding AI doesn’t solve the problem. It can simply make an already fragmented system more complicated.
That’s why we believe AI readiness is becoming an important measure of franchise system readiness. At The StratonHunter Group, we’re increasingly focused on helping businesses connect operations, people, market intelligence, and performance data so leadership can see the entire business rather than individual pieces of it.
Our work developing PerformANT™, our AI-powered Business Replica, is based on the same principle: the value isn’t simply having more data or another AI tool. It’s connecting the information that already exists across the organization and turning it into better decisions.

The franchise systems that gain the greatest advantage from AI won’t necessarily be the ones that adopt the most technology. They’ll be the ones that build the strongest operating foundation underneath it.The question for franchise leaders is changing from “Are we using AI?” to “Are we actually ready to use AI across our system?”
